What can Congress do about Colorado's drought?

Colorado is dealing with a drought crisis that touches every part of the system. Snowpack is shrinking, infrastructure is aging, soils are drier, and groundwater levels are falling. No single program out of Washington, no single project, no single bill is going to fix all of that at once. And frankly, I don't think the federal government should be dictating how Colorado manages its own water. A lot of this work belongs at the state and local level where good work is already being done by experienced, and caring folks. That said, there's a real role for Congress to play. We can fund the kind of infrastructure that no single community or farmer could ever afford on their own. We can support conservation and efficiency efforts by working alongside our communities, not imposing on them. We can stand up for Colorado when federal decisions run up against interstate water compacts. And we can keep rural communities from getting stuck with costly federal requirements and no money to actually meet them. Keeping our farmers able to grow food and our towns supplied with clean, dependable water isn't just a state concern — it's a national one. And honestly, Coloradans deserve better than watching Washington politicians fail to work together long enough to deliver on any of it.
